UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES

Albion College Foundation Programmes are designed for international students who wish to progress to degree level studies at universities in the UK. It is accepted by the vast majority of British universities including Royal Holloway (University of London), Queen Mary (University of London), Westminster, Essex, Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield.

Our Foundation Programme is a one year full time course, and has been devised in consultation with UK universities to provide the best possible preparation for a degree programme.

It is ideal for students who wish to study for degrees in the following subjects:

  • Business
  • Management
  • Accounting
  • Law
  • Social Sciences
  • Computer Studies
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering
  • Physics

In the first term students are given tuition in Mathematics and IT, as well as courses to improve Communication Skills and to prepare for the British Council IELTS examination – an essential qualification for all degree programmes. Also, students are taught various study skills which they will require at university. These include essay planning, referencing and research skills.

In the second and third terms, students choose the Foundation Programme which best suits their chosen subjects at university. There are five programmes:

  1. Business and Management
  2. ICT
  3. Engineering
  4. Life Sciences
  5. Social Sciences

All students receive individual help in choosing suitable degree courses and universities. You will receive advice in completing your application form for universities, completing a personal statement, and preparing for interviews.

ASSESSMENT

Modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and written examinations. These exams are internally set and examined.

ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS

English Language requirement from one of the following:

IELTS 5.0
TOEFL Paper 500
TOEFL Computer 175
TOEFL iBT 60
Cambridge Exams First Certificate (Pass)
TOEIC 59
Pearson's PTE 46

If students have achieved a lower grade in one of these exams, they may be accepted for this course subject to a Pre-Sessional Programme of between 3 and 6 months. Please refer to college for level required in order to qualify for these Pre-Sessional programmes.
