Q: Do I need a visa to come and study in the UK?

A: Yes, for the majority of students applying from outside the European Union, a student visa is necessary. The two main requirements are a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your chosen college, and evidence of sufficient funds in your bank account. Q: What are the entry requirements for Albion College?

A: For each course there are different requirements, and details can be seen on each course page. For all academic courses, the requirements are a combination of academic qualifications, and English language qualifications.

Q: Which English Language tests are accepted by the UKBA?

A: There are three tests accepted by the UKBA – IELTS, TOEFL, and Pearsons PTE Academic. Links to testing centres can be found on our Weblinks page

Q: How do I apply to study at Albion College?

A: You can apply online or download an application form from our Website. The Application Process page gives full details of the process once we have received your application.

Q: What do I do once I have obtained a visa?

A:You should tell the college immediately and also let us know your travel arrangements. Once you arrive in the UK, you should come to the college within three days of arrival and we will then register you.

Q: If my visa application is unsuccessful, can I get a refund?

A: Yes, your deposit will be refunded except for an administration fee of £ 200.

Q: Can I get a refund if I change my mind about coming to the college?

A: Only in exceptional circumstances. Once a deposit has been made, we will usually only give a refund if your application to get a visa is rejected. We may also withhold a refund, if fraudulent documents are used to obtain a student visa

Q: Can I change my course after arriving in London?

A: Occasionally we allow students to change their programme, but usually this is not possible.

Q: How can I open a bank account?

A: The college will help you to do this by giving you a letter to take to our bank.

Q: How do I get discounts on public transport?

A: Students of Albion can apply for a Student Travelcard. This gives a discount of 30% for travel by bus or underground.

Q: Can I register with a doctor?

A: Yes, students can receive free health treatment in the UK. We will give you a letter to register with a doctor close to where you live. Alternatively, we can register you with a doctor close to the college.

Q: Can I pay my fees by instalments?

A: On the offer letter, we will outline your payment schedule. Usually we will ask for a 50% deposit, and the remainder of your fees can be paid by instalments during your course.

Q: How many hours will I need to study?

A: Hours of tuition will vary from one course to another, but will be at least 15 hours per week.

Q: As an international student, is there a problem if I miss lessons?

A: Yes, a very big problem! Students must attend at least 80% of lessons or else the college has to report them to the UKBA and then remove them from the college. You must attend lessons. If you are removed from the college for poor attendance, you will not get any refund of fees.

Q: Yes, but what if I am ill?

A: Then you must inform the college. If you are absent for more than three days, you will need to get a doctor’s note as evidence of your illness.

Q: As an International student, am I allowed to work?

A: Yes, you can work up to 20 hours per week during term time on courses at Level 6 or above, and 10 hours per week on other programmes. Students are allowed to work full time during vacations.

Q: Does the college have any social activities?

A: Yes, we have a Student Union which organises social events and trips, as well as sporting activities – see Social Activities.
