Diploma in Nursing (Social Care)
This is a two year full time programme that prepares
students for employment in the health and social
care sector as nursing assistants. It combines
one year of tuition and one year of paid work
experience in a care home. In the period of work
placement, students can expect to earn about £10,000
of which £1,000 to £2,000 will be
spent on food and accommodation. Nursing assistants
are responsible for assisting patients/clients
with personal care; fluid and nutrition; mobility;
and elimination needs. In addition to meeting
physical needs, nursing assistants also play an
important role in meeting the emotional needs
of patients/residents.
Nursing assistants employed in health care facilities
are often the principal caregivers, having far
more contact with patients than other members
of the staff. They should be healthy, tactful,
patient, understanding, dependable, and have a
desire to help people. They should also be able
to work as part of a team and have good communication
skills. Nursing assistants may be employed in
hospitals, in private duty, in assisted-living
facilities, hospices, home health areas, or nursing
homes. Generally there is a considerable shortage
of applicants for nursing assistant posts in the
UK.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
4 GCSEs or national equivalent or NVQ Level I

An English Language level is also required equivalent
