| Professional
Diploma in Health and Social Care (Level
Four – accredited by Middlesex University)
This is a one year full time programme which
prepares students for a wide range of careers
in the healthcare sector. Both in the UK and overseas
there are wide and varied career opportunities
both in the field of health care assistants and
in professions with a focus on prevention of disease.
The programme introduces students to national
and international issues in the healthcare industry
as well as developing a knowledge in the human
body and the prevention and cure of diseases.
Students are assisted in finding work placements
in order to gain a practical knowledge of the
industry. During the period of work placement,
students complete a project, consolidating the
knowledge acquired during the programme
Care assistants employed in health care facilities
are often the principal caregivers, having far
more contact with patients than other members
of the staff. They should be healthy, tactful,
patient, understanding, dependable, and have a
desire to help people. They should also be able
to work as part of a team and have good communication
skills. Nursing assistants may be employed in
hospitals, in private duty, in assisted-living
facilities, hospices, home health areas, or nursing
homes. Generally there is a considerable shortage
of applicants for nursing assistant posts in the
UK.
